When was the last time you felt in tune with yourself? How connected do you feel to the people and the world around you? What do you know about yourself, and what do you do with that information? Being in relationships can enliven life, and I have observed how the therapeutic relationship, in particular, can bring clarity to these questions, and many others.
I practice psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy, meaning that I focus on exploring the past's influence on the present with special attention to relationships in your life. I am not a blank slate; I react and respond to what you share. I provide a trained and attuned listening ear to what you bring in the space, listening for the themes and patterns woven throughout your life. I especially listen for what is not being said and help you explore the connections-- and tensions-- between your inner experience and the world around you. Through talking together, I help you make sense of ways of being you are aware of, and those that are unconscious to you, so that you can become more of an active participant in how you move through the world.
I enjoy working with people who are interested in long-term psychotherapy. I understand that building a trusting relationship takes time! I do not rush to interpret your life; instead, I take time to get to know you. My approach is sincere and honest, humorous and playful. I specialize in helping people navigate anxiety, grief, life stress, and life transitions. I particularly enjoy working through existential dilemmas and helping people create meaning in their lives. Psychotherapy is but one of many ways to move towards healing. My hope is that through this work you feel more connection with yourself, your relationships, and your community.
